Robinspring Capital, a small-business funding broker in Laramie, Wyoming, follows four steps: a first call about the bill, a check of the business file, review and decision by a lending partner, and your choice whether to accept. This page also covers what partners read, how to compare offers by total cost, timing and warning signs.
Step 1: Tell us the bill
Call or send the short form; if you use the form, we call you. The first question is always what the money has to pay for and by when. A crew's wages due before a draw, a supplier order, a build-out on Grand Ave or a used loader each lead to a different product, and the answer shapes everything after it.
First steps to getting a business loan are mostly about that clarity. If you cannot yet say what the money is for, we will help you work it out before any request goes anywhere.
Step 2: We check the file
Before a partner sees anything, we look at what it will look at. Is the Wyoming entity active and its annual report current? Does the legal name match the bank account? Are there older liens or advances still open? How do recent bank statements read? Fixing a lapsed record now is easier than explaining it later.
Then we choose the product: working capital, a term loan, a line of credit, inventory financing, equipment financing or a merchant cash advance, which is not a loan.
Step 3: A lending partner underwrites and rules
We send the request to lending partners that write that product. The partner underwrites the business: deposits, credit, debts, time in operation and purpose. It decides whether to make an offer, and if it does, it sets the amount, rate, term and conditions. We do not decide, and we cannot change a partner's decision.
Partners commonly ask for business bank statements, tax returns, an ID for each owner, the entity documents, and for equipment, the vendor's quote. A partner may ask for more. Our post on qualifying for a line of credit in Laramie, WY shows what a review looks like for one product.
Step 4: You weigh the offer and answer
If an offer arrives, read it in full. Accepting is your decision, and declining costs you nothing with us. When two offers sit side by side, compare them on the same basis:
| Offer states | What it means | Turn it into |
|---|---|---|
| APR | Annual cost of a loan, including some charges | Total dollars repaid over the term |
| Factor rate | Multiplier on a merchant cash advance; not interest | Total dollars remitted |
| Payment | The amount and how often it is collected | Weekly or monthly cash out of the account |
| Term or estimated collection period | How long payments last | When the business is free of it |
An APR and a factor rate cannot be compared directly. Total dollars, payment size and frequency can.
How long does it take to apply for a business loan?
The call takes minutes. After that, timing depends on the partner and on how complete the file is: a missing statement or a lapsed state record adds days on its own. We do not promise how fast a partner will decide, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
How to get a business loan for the first time follows the same four steps. First-time business loan requirements are usually stricter on documents, so the owner's credit and the plan draw extra questions.
Warning signs, wherever you apply
- A promise of approval before anyone has seen your file
- A request for money before an offer exists
- An offer that states a daily payment but no total
- Being hurried to sign an agreement you have not finished reading
- A lender or broker that will not put its terms in writing
Free, independent help exists too. Our Albany County, Wyoming resource guide describes it, the FAQ answers shorter questions, and our disclosures set out where our role stops.
