Albany County, Wyoming: the short version
Albany County, Wyoming had 1,097 employer establishments in 2023, 56.5% of them with fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). It also had 3,292 businesses with no paid employees in 2024 (Census Nonemployer Statistics 2024), a separate count. Residential construction gives a sense of activity: building permits authorised 96 new housing units in 2023, 137 in 2024 and 108 in 2025, all single-unit in 2025 (Census Building Permits Survey).
Owner-only businesses are spread widely. Professional, scientific and technical services (529) and real estate and rental and leasing (505) were the largest groups in 2024, followed by arts, entertainment and recreation (269) (Census Nonemployer Statistics 2024).
Addresses outside Laramie, WY city limits
Two ZIP codes carry the Laramie name, 82070 and 82072, and the city covers only 1.2% and 3.5% of their land respectively (Census 2020 ZIP-to-place relationship file). Many businesses with a Laramie address are therefore in unincorporated Albany County, Wyoming. That rarely changes how funding works, but it can change which local office issues a license or a permit, which partners sometimes ask about.
